Saturday 25th
Hi Folks, Today we are going to Wales. Wales is a place wee have not really toured before in our MH even though we are officially only about 20 miles from the border:
Well we are heading down all the way to somewhere called St David’s, This is allegedly the smallest city in Europe. Our first trip sees us down to stay at a user of Motor home Fun called Dylan. Dylan’s site is a small CL in Cynghordy the site is called Cwmcuttam. Our drive saw us head through the Welsh countryside and with a few hours behind us we were arriving at the site. The site is really nice. Im not touting for business for the owners but the site has a lovely man made lake, is as dark as dark can be once the sun goes down, and to top it all you can hear nothing. The owners are nice and friendly and the land around the site is great for walks. With only 6 pitches make sure you ring and book!! The fish in the lake are fed by bread and when you throw a bit in there is a feeding frenzy of all sorts of carp. This alone kept the kids well and truly amused for ages, well until the bread ran out.
Sunday 26
Now I did say the site is quiet. However there is a train line very near by if you wish to travel off to Swansea or Cardiff. But do not expect to many. There only appears to be 4 a day. We were kept awake not by any trains but by the sound of the rain fall on the van.
Off we went in the morning and said our goodbyes. We went off towards Carmarthen and had a quick tour before heading off through Haverford west and on to St David’s. Now in true motor home style we had no where booked, we just knew where we wanted to be and what sort of place we would like to be at. St David’s was not quite what we expected, It was not on the beach although there were places close by that were. So off we headed towards those. We hunted high and low for a sort of place to stop that would fit the bill but could not find anywhere. Eventually we settled for a nice caravan and camping club site at White sands. At £14.80 for us all it wasn’t to bad. The shower block was just like what you come to expect from a CC site. Very nice piped music and heated block along with piping hot showers. The walk down to White sands beach was about 1.5 miles up and down hill, but on arriving we found that it had a really nice surf beach and shop along with a very nice car park. So having seen all that we sat down to eat an ice cream and thought about what we would do the next day. Not before we had managed to spot a couple of seals bobbing in the water between the surfers. We returned to the motor home and settled in for a shower and a good night of family entertainment.
Monday 27th
We awoke nice and early and set off to complete our plans. They included a whistle stop tour of St David’s cathedral a visit to the surf shop to hire some gear, and then some surfing followed by a bit of rock climbing around the coastal walks that led from the beach. Well the surf shop at St David’s was not too good so we just headed off to the beach to have a look at the surf. Well it’s a good job we never bothered with the surf kit. The water was like a mill pond, especially in comparison to yesterday where the surf looked really hot. We opted instead for a nice long coastal walk to include some rock climbing. We set off and after a few hours had reached the summit of where we intended. We enjoyed the views for a while before heading back down to “nessie” for a bite to eat. Aftre eating our plan was to move up the coast a bit around Cardigan bay and find a nice CL to stop on. Well we looked and looked and spotted a great Wild Camping spot. However having thought about it we decided not to and looked for a CL. As always we ended up with no CL and moving closer and closer to home. At one point we had decided to travel home before coming across a sign that said New Quay. We followed the sign on Nikki’s advice to find the most wonderful fishing town. By now it was dark and we thought no to a camping site. We thought we would stop in the car park overlooking the sea. At this time of the year we don’t anticipate any knocks on the door and to be honest the weathers that bad if anyone wants to come and move us on then I will gladly shake them by the hand for coming out.
After a good nights sleep we headed off home, via a few more Welsh seaside towns.
It was a nice break and Wales surely is a beautiful country. I just can’t help thinking that if the tourist board was as good as Scotland or other countries in the continent they could cream in a good load of revenue. Other than of course the rain!!! Still England has them problems too.
By for now, next we are off to Billing aqua dome bonfire meet. Looks like a good one.
